Description
An enzyme made by the liver. Its activity helps assess liver function and detect poisoning by organophosphates (for example, some pesticides); it also matters before anesthesia.
When to Take This Test
- Suspected pesticide poisoning
- Assessing liver function
- Before anesthesia, as directed by an anesthesiologist
Preparation
- In the morning on an empty stomach, 8–12 hours without food (water is fine)
- Avoid fatty food and alcohol the day before
