Description
Cystatin C is an accurate marker of kidney function that doesn't depend on muscle mass. Detects reduced kidney function earlier than creatinine.
When to Take This Test
- Early assessment of kidney function
- Diabetes, hypertension
- When a creatinine-based assessment isn't accurate enough
Preparation
- Morning, fasting, 8–12 hours without food
- No alcohol the day before
