Description
The main test for assessing thyroid function. TSH regulates thyroid hormone production and is the first to react to problems — that's why it's the starting point when checking for thyroid disorders.
When to Take This Test
- Weight changes, fatigue, drowsiness, or irritability
- Hair loss, dry skin, swelling
- Cycle irregularities, planning and managing pregnancy
- Monitoring thyroid disease treatment
Preparation
- Blood is taken in the morning (8–11 AM), fasting
- No alcohol or heavy physical exertion the day before
- Let your doctor know in advance if you take thyroid hormones
