Description
Measures the activity of an enzyme that can be elevated in sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease that most often affects the lungs. Used in diagnosing sarcoidosis and monitoring it.
When to Take This Test
- Persistent cough, shortness of breath, swollen lymph nodes
- Suspected sarcoidosis
- Monitoring sarcoidosis, as directed by a pulmonologist
Preparation
- In the morning on an empty stomach, 8–12 hours without food (water is fine)
- Avoid fatty food and alcohol the day before
