PCR detection of the DNA of fungi that cause fungal infections (mycoses) in a skin or nail scraping. Helps determine whether skin or nail changes are caused by a fungal infection.
When to Take This Test
- Thickened, brittle, or discolored nails
- Itching, flaking, or redness of the skin
- As directed by a dermatologist/mycologist
Preparation
- Sample collection is done by a healthcare worker
- No antifungal products for 2 weeks beforehand (check with your doctor)
