Description
2nd-trimester screening (usually weeks 16–18): a blood test (AFP, hCG, estriol) that assesses the risk of chromosomal abnormalities and fetal developmental disorders.
When to Take This Test
- Pregnancy at 16–18 weeks
- Assessing the risk of fetal abnormalities
- As directed by your obstetrician-gynecologist
Preparation
- Take at the scheduled point in pregnancy
- State your gestational age, weight, and ultrasound findings
- Fasting is preferred
